1. About this website
The Otto Wyler website was initiated to collect and present his paintings and other works created over the many years he was active - mainly in Aarau where he lived and created in his studios - but also paintings from many trips abroad.
Without pretending to be based on academics, the idea is to present to the public some kind of catalogue raisonne - an overview of his works to be enjoyed by the visitors of this website and perhaps also to be used in art studies.
The website could facilitate an information platform for the owners / collectors of works by Otto Wyler.
2. Who are we and why did we establish this website.
For many years the family of Otto Wyler did look for an opportunity to exhibit some of his works, as we feel he deserves this. It took some years and finally in 2013 some 40 of his painting arrived in Israel and were exhibited at the Ein Harod Museum - one of the more important museums in Israel. As a follow up, one painting is exhibited today at the Museum of Tel Aviv.
While preparing this exhibition we prepared & collected some 400 quality photographs of paintings and other art created by Otto Wyler - most of them in Switzerland, but also in Holland, the USA and Israel. It would be a waste of energy if we would not use this data base, and after first considering the publication of a book, the idea of creating a dedicated Otto Wyler website seemed to be more appropriate in the digital world of today.
3. Request for information.
We invite visitors to the website who have paintings / art works of Otto Wyler, to provide us relevant information and permission to add these to the website. If there are no quality photographs of the painting available, we will try to arrange the visit of a professional photographer.
Hopefully visitors could also provide stories and anecdotes connected to Otto Wyler and his works - which we will add to the articles. We also welcome corrections on the information provided in the website.
As it is important to show returning visitors to the website what has been added, there is a separate section “ news “ where all recent updates / additions will be listed and shown.
In the website you will also find links to institutes and entities, which are actively involved in the research on Swiss Art, such as the SIK – the Swiss Institute for Art Research. The focus of their activities are research, documentation, knowledge and service in the field of visual arts. Core area is the creation of art in Switzerland from the Middle Ages to the present.
